Pneumatic and electric actuation.
Pneumatic (spring-return, double-acting) and eMaxion™ electric actuation for hygienic diaphragm valves. Drop-in Tork-Tite® bonnet interface. Modulating control via electropneumatic positioner.
Pneumatic actuators.
Spring-return and double-acting pneumatic actuators built on precision stainless internals. Compact, lightweight, and engineered to the same Tork-Tite® bonnet interface as the manual line.
Lightweight performance-plastic housings with precision stainless internals and O-rings machined and molded to tight tolerances. Designed for long, trouble-free service across continuous-duty bioprocess applications. Available with limit-switch options, banjo-mount solenoid, NAMUR adaptor for valve positioner integration, and an integral controlled travel stop. High cycle life is built into the mechanism, not advertised against it.

eMaxion™ electric.
Electric actuation with no compressed-air utility burden, no air-quality validation requirement, and built-in closed-loop position feedback. The cleaner, quieter, drier alternative to pneumatic where the install envelope demands it.
eMaxion™ is Aquasyn's electric actuator for hygienic diaphragm and pinch valve bodies. Designed for facilities targeting a quieter cleanroom envelope, sites without compressed-air infrastructure, or processes that benefit from finer modulating control resolution than pneumatic can practically deliver. The mounting interface matches the standard Aquasyn bonnet, so eMaxion is a drop-in replacement for existing pneumatic stations.
Why specify eMaxion
- No compressed-air utility
- No air-quality validation
- Quieter cleanroom envelope
- Finer modulating resolution
- Built-in closed-loop feedback
- Lower facility operating overhead
Installation behavior
- Drop-in mount · existing bonnets
- Encoder-based position feedback
- Modulating control native
- Standard signal input
- SCADA / PLC integration
- Common across diaphragm and ARTēVA®
Pneumatic vs. electric actuation.
Both are proven on hygienic process. The right choice depends on your utility setup, control requirements, and total cost of ownership. Aquasyn engineers spec both · here is what to weigh.
- You already have qualified compressed air infrastructure
- Upfront capital cost is the primary constraint
- You want the simplest failure envelope for validation
- Rapid actuation at larger diameters (3", 4") is the priority
- Hazardous area installation with intrinsically safe pneumatic control
- You don't have compressed air, or want to eliminate it
- Closed-loop position feedback for modulating control is needed
- SCADA / PLC / Pharma 4.0 data integration is required
- Cleaner installation envelope matters · no air lines, quieter
- Long-term operating cost weighs more than upfront cost
- Same actuator across diaphragm + pinch + single-use lines simplifies inventory
Which actuation for which process.
The comparison above tells you what pneumatic and electric do differently. This tells you where each one lands on real biopharm, pharma, and process lines. Aquasyn engineers spec both, mixed per station · here is the shortlist.
Five integration options · specify what your process needs.
Add-on configurations that adapt the standard actuator to specific control architectures, hazardous-area classifications, and operator-override requirements. Specify at order; mounted at the factory.
Stroke Limiter
Mechanically limits actuator travel to a set position. Useful for two-position service that needs a partial-open setpoint, or for protecting downstream components from full-flow exposure during commissioning.
Electrical Position Feedback
Continuous analog or digital position readout. Standard 4–20 mA output integrates directly with DCS, SCADA, and PLC inputs for valve-position telemetry and control-loop closure.
Intrinsically Safe Control · On/Off Head
For classified hazardous areas. Approved-circuit limit and solenoid components in a sealed control head. Field-mounted, no separate IS barrier required upstream.
Electrical Feedback Switch
Discrete position-confirmed contact closure. Lower-cost alternative to analog feedback where the application only needs open/closed confirmation, not modulating resolution.
Manual Override
Hand-operated stroke override for maintenance and commissioning, without removing the actuator. Locks out automated control while engaged. Specified when operator-accessible bypass is procedurally required.
Other configurations
NAMUR adaptors, banjo-mount solenoids, custom signal protocols, special-paint enclosures, and ATEX-zone certifications available on request. Engineering team configures to spec.
Roughly one in ten pneumatic valves ships with a control head or position switch on top, either position limiting or full feedback. Aquasyn works with the Burkert 8691 and 8692 control heads and the 8697 position switch, and holds the mounting adaptor kits in stock, so the head arrives fitted, aligned and stroked against the actual valve rather than shimmed on site.
Burkert carries the recognized approvals in most markets. Canada is the exception: certain Canadian registrations call for a different head, and we substitute an alternative brand for that service. Name the destination market on the order and we will specify accordingly.
One actuator family · every Aquasyn body.
Pneumatic and eMaxion™ electric actuators mount on the same Tork-Tite® bonnet interface across the entire diaphragm range. The ARTēVA® pinch line shares the eMaxion mounting. Specify once, configure across every station.
The eMaxion™ electric actuator drives every body family in the table above · Two-Way, Multi-Port, Block-Body, and ARTēVA® pinch. Facilities that standardize on eMaxion carry a single spare part across every flow-control station instead of one per valve type.

eMaxion™ electric · same bonnet, no compressed air.
Facilities that want out of the compressed-air business · for cleanroom envelope, energy overhead, or sites where air-quality validation is itself an audit headache · can swap any Aquasyn pneumatic actuator for eMaxion electric without changing the bonnet, the body, or the valve interface. Drop-in mounting. Closed-loop position feedback built in. Modulating control native, no separate positioner stage required.
The same eMaxion drives the ARTēVA® pinch line. One actuator product, mounted across the diaphragm and pinch ranges, gives a facility a single electric-actuation standard across every flow-control station.
